Healing from grief and loss

Grief and loss is a journey all of us wish to avoid but a journey all of us go on, in significant and smaller ways. Earlier this year, through a discussion with my counselor, God taught me a tool to help with grief and loss. I’ve added my thoughts to his thoughts and I’m so excited to share this with you.

Healing from grief and loss – Part 1

One June morning in 2017, I received a phone call from our son at Camp Grafton. A storm with 80 mph winds came through as he ate breakfast in a large tent. Just as he looked up, the center pole came crashing down on his plate, narrowly missing his head. He escaped the tent, ran across a field and took cover in a trailer. A month later, I talked to a friend in Costco. He has a friend who was also at Camp Grafton that day. That friend told him about a soldier that almost died in that storm. His friend couldn’t believe the soldier made it out of the tent as stakes were yanking out of the ground and other items flying through the air. I told my friend, “That soldier was my son!”

Thoughts on Easter season

I believe, as humans, we are created in the image of God…every one of us. We are unique from every other living organism in that we can reflect God’s character. This includes a deep desire for authentic relationships; the ability to receive and express love; the capacity for complex thinking and problem solving; and to respond to or reject the leadership and invitations for hope and healing initiated by our Divine Creator.

Grass or weeds?

Five years ago, I was talking to a friend about our lawn. He is in the lawn care business and he offered me this timeless advice, “There are two ways to have a nice lawn. One way is to remove all the weeds. The other is to grow your grass so thick there is no room for weeds.”

All Of Us Will Travel With Grief

Grief is a journey. Don’t take shortcuts. Life is difficult. We need each other. We all

need God. Don’t run from Him when you face pain. Where is God today? “He is close to the

brokenhearted and saving those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
