Encouragement from a faith story

This week, I talked to Tim and here is his faith story:

Church and the presence of Christ played a small role in my life growing up. I only went to church occasionally with family. I knew so very little of religion and Christ that I was against it. I felt it didn’t play a true role in any real-life scenarios. I would roll my eyes when star athletes would first give thanks to God. I would stand outside the circle of my teammates prior to a baseball game while they kneeled together for prayer. In my mind, I was living life right, was nice to people, and a “good” person.

Shout out to our teachers

On a recent morning I was blessed to visit my daughter’s elementary school. Earlier in the school year, she entered the Battle of the Books competition and scored high enough to be selected. Her team competed against seven other teams. Each one did outstanding. Her team did not make the championship, but she was grinning ear-to-ear to participate and have mom and dad watch her.

Writing your story in 2018

Deep down in every human heart is a longing to live the story that someday we would love to tell. We can do our best to shrug off or discredit that desire, but it still simmers and is always present.

So as we enter a new year, let’s take this opportunity to evaluate the story our lives are writing. On Dec. 31, 2020, if you and I sat down in front of a television and I put in a DVD of highlights from the next three years of your life, what would you want to see on that television? When your time here on earth is done and your name comes up at your family’s holiday gathering or at the coffee shop, what story do you want someone to tell about you? Are you living the life today that will produce the story tomorrow that you would love to tell?
