Ready, set, grow, Part 3

Let’s continue our discussion on maturity from the book of James in the Bible. There are five chapters in James, and each chapter teaches us a mark of maturity. In chapter one the mark of maturity is “How do I react to problems?” In chapter two, “How do I treat other people?” In chapter three, “Do I control what I say?”

Ready, set, grow, Part 2

Last Sunday we started a discussion on maturity as described in the book of James in the Bible. The first test of maturity is, “How do I react to problems?” Every problem in my life can either be a stepping stone to further maturity or a stumbling block holding me to immaturity. Ready, set, grow, Part 1

Towards the end of the New Testament of the Bible there is a fascinating book full of practical wisdom; the book of James. I highly recommend reading through James at least once a year. Dying to grow

Two of my favorite questions to ask people are “What have you learned lately?” and “Who or where did you learn it from?” Personal growth is optional, but not really an option. I ask these two questions, directly or indirectly, because whatever you are learning I probably need to learn too and I am always looking for the best people, places, books and resources to learn from.

The spirit of Thanksgiving is thankful living

Happy Thanksgiving, readers! I continue to receive encouraging words from you and I am so thankful and blessed by each of you. I started writing this column one year ago today and I had no idea the positive impact it would have, but God did. I pray it will continue to grow.

As a child I told people that Memorial Day was my favorite holiday and the Indy 500 was my favorite sporting event. The reason was they signaled the start of summer vacation; no school for three months! My favorite holiday, however, has always been Thanksgiving, by far. I love fall, football and all of the traditional Thanksgiving food (including the fact there are no fruit cakes at Thanksgiving). Add family to the mix and it becomes the perfect holiday.
