I have this hope

Last week, I chatted about writing with a marketing director from Wisconsin. She writes for brochures, the company website and marketing emails. Her topic is always given to her. When I told her I write a weekly column her immediate question was, “How do you know what to write about?” I replied, “That is a great question. I try to think about those reading the column and ask God to provide something helpful to at least one of them.”

Writing your story in 2018

Deep down in every human heart is a longing to live the story that someday we would love to tell. We can do our best to shrug off or discredit that desire, but it still simmers and is always present.

So as we enter a new year, let’s take this opportunity to evaluate the story our lives are writing. On Dec. 31, 2020, if you and I sat down in front of a television and I put in a DVD of highlights from the next three years of your life, what would you want to see on that television? When your time here on earth is done and your name comes up at your family’s holiday gathering or at the coffee shop, what story do you want someone to tell about you? Are you living the life today that will produce the story tomorrow that you would love to tell?
